Bunavoneader was not meant to be the first in house project....but it has just worked out that way....a quarter of an acre of steeply sloping land, facing onto the beautiful bay at Bunavoneader and the historic Whaling Station.
A single storey, 2 bedroom house was designed for the site, particular attention had to be paid to the scale and massing of the building to ensure it did not detract from the historic Whaling Station. The design incorporates a gently sloping green roof to mirror the contours of the land and help the building blend into the local surroundings.
Groundworks started in March 2018 and progress updates are on the blog. Works were completed in June 2019 when the green roof was finished off and the deck was constructed.
I was approached to look at a site in Carnforth with a view to creating a stable block and a detached garage. The client had previously worked with another architect and had submitted a scheme that was refused by the local planning authority. The existing house is a barn conversion and as such permitted development rights had been removed. As a result the approach was to submit separate planning applications for the stable block and the garage so that each could be viewed separately. Following conversations with the local planning authority both applications have been approved and are under construction.
Calumn’s House is located on the Isle of Lewis within the village of Arivruaich. The client would like to create a two bedroom home that takes advantage of the beautiful views south over Loch Shiphoirt.
A two storey home with an open plan living area and two ensuite bedrooms set into the pitched roof has been designed. The metal clad building is set between two stone gable ends with all windows looking south towards the Loch.
Planning was granted in 2020 and it is hoped that construction will start in 2022.
